Discipline… it sucks, but it’s worth it.

Have you ever come across a child that’s rarely disciplined?  No matter how far they go in disrupting, dismantling, or destroying the world around them, mom and dad just seem to turn a blind eye.  You know what I’m talking about don’t you?  One might assume that it’s just “kids being kids” until you come across a child that actually seems to have an understanding of what it means to be obedient…  they’re mature, respectful, somewhat responsible, a joy to be around.  A miracle?  Doubtful, it’s more than likely the discipline and instruction of good parents.

And so the narrative continues into our adult lives…

Left to ourselves, we’re more liable to cause unnecessary hell for ourselves and others than we like to admit, but it’s in the disciplines of life (the mistakes, the routine, constructive criticism, an honest rebuke, or even a good swift @#$ beating here or there) where we gain wisdom, develop an understanding and discernment we didn’t previously have, learn humility, and ultimately thrive.  Good God-given discipline is not meant to kill us, it’s meant to make us better and help us live a more fruitful life.  It stings, I know, and it doesn’t feel good in the moment either, but it’s better than forever remaining stuck at the same level where we never fully step into the momentum of who we’re meant to become.

Embrace the pain; win the day…
